Ian's First Steps! {and One who never misses a first}

Today has been a big day in the Cress household.

{Ian took his first steps!}

It all started with Daniel making Brylee's hair like Fancy Nancy's. (That was a big moment all on it's own. Why didn't I take pictures of that?!) She's propped up on pillows in front of the sofa. Ian's holding himself up in front of her, eying the objects in her hair and in intent focus he lets go of whatever is securing his stance and for several moments balances himself in the air.

Brylee excitedly points it out and I join him on the floor, encouraging him to stand again while holding him back so he doesn't attack Brylee's head like he so desperately wants. He breaks free and takes several steps toward Brylee, still focusing on her fancy hair.

{He walked!!}

Assuming it's a fluke like the first few steps Brylee took at 10 months, I half expected him to not try again when put on the spot. But we do, and he does! With our little family all there, Ian excitedly takes steps back and forth between Daniel, Brylee and myself, as we encourage and cheer him on.

Doesn't he just look so proud?! And happy! And excited!

Reminds me of another little proud, happy, excited smiling face I happened to capture on memory card.

Brylee, at 7 months old, when she sat herself up the first time. Doesn't she look like she's saying, "Did you see that, Mom?!"

Just a couple days ago, I was a part of a conversation talking about baby's firsts and being a stay-at-home mom to be a part of them. My response was that even with staying home I may not see them because I'm busy doing laundry or cooking or taking care of something in another room. And what matters is cherishing the firsts we witness, whether or not it truly is their "first."

Whether we're busy working or busy cleaning or just plain busy, we're bound to miss plenty. But there is Someone just as excited as we are that has seen and will see every first. Someone who has His eye on Brylee and Ian. Someone that was there when Daniel and I took that big step blending our lives into one. Someone who never will, let our little family escape from His care.

You will show me the path of life;
In your presence is fullness of joy;
At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
{Psalm 16:11}

The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord,
And He delights in his way.
Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down;
For the Lord upholds him with His hand.
{Psalm 37:23-24}

He has shown you, O man, what is good;
And what does the Lord require of you
But to do justly,
To love mercy,
And to walk humbly with your God
{Micah 6:8}
