We planned on spending Daniel's birthday at Daytona Beach, then eating at Red Robin. It's one of our favorite restaurants and the closest one is about 45 minutes away in Port Orange. As a birthday gift, I surprised Daniel with a hotel reservation in Daytona to reduce the hassle of driving home at the end of the day.
There's a few things I'd do differently (i.e., get to the beach sooner, choose only the shores area, and use the hotel pool), but the one thing I'll do again: name my price on Priceline. My dad's gotten some pretty good deals when he's come to visit, so I decided to try it out. I checked the luxury hotel option and decided to lowball my offer figuring I could go hirer if needed. The Hilton Resort accepted my named price of $45! Very nice hotel at a great price.
We really enjoyed doing something different than we usually do and will definitely be indulging in this type of staycation again. Or perhaps we'll take The Nest's ideas for a staycation at home.
